About

About the reader…

'tis I!I’m a bookish geek girl who loves to read, write, and drink tea. I have an MA in English and am near finishing a degree in library & information science. You can read all about my personal exploits and adventures at things she said. Or you can learn more about me by reading this post.

About my reading selections…

I have a preference for character-driven fiction, especially of the strong female protagonist variety. I love Victorian fiction, both classic literature and historical fiction. I am also particularly fond of Jane Austen, Robin McKinley, Harry Potter, young adult fantasy, and Asian historical fiction (especially late 19th and early 20th century Japanese). I also enjoy the occasional biography. I grew up on books about girls doing things–growing up in the backwoods, fighting dragons, rescuing beasts, and my reading choices continue to reflect such a preference.

My reviews are based on my personal reading choices, rather than the latest books. I like variety, but I know what works for me, so if it seems like most of my reviews are positive, it’s because I don’t generally bother finishing a book that I don’t enjoy (unless it’s a personal challenge… like when I forced myself to finish The Count of Monte Cristo).

Review requests and How to contact me…

I am open to suggestions, recommendations, and review requests, but I don’t make any promises regarding reviews. That said, if you would like contact me regarding a review request, recommendation, etc., I can be reached at emperatrixx@gmail.com

About the blog…

I started things she read during the December 2007 holidays because I wanted a place where I could discuss books. One of the things that I most enjoyed about my time as an English student were the book discussions and I hoped to continue to nurture that interest by blogging. However, my reviews tend to be much more informal than the academic-style writing that I normally engage in… even I need a break from literary analysis.
